Central & East Asian Carpets

As godfathers of oriental carpets, all of history’s weavers owe appreciation to the stepped nomads of Central Asia for introducing their craft to the world.

In Central Asia, the nomadic pastoral Turkmens weaved carpets & textiles intended for daily functional use. Many motifs in Caucasian and old Anatolian rugs can be traced to Turkmen origins.

Moving East, weavers in East Turkestan finely blend Turkic, Persian, and Chinese design elements whereas carpets from Peking maintain a more distinctly Chinese feeling.
